According to the financial report published by Nintendo for the third quarter of the year 2025 (April-December), as at 31 December 2025, another 1.36 million copies of the Switch mainframe in Nintendo had been sold, bringing the cumulative sales to 155.37 billion. Switch 2 hosts sold 17.37 million.

According to its presentation, this means that Switch’s lifetime sales have officially surpassed the best-selling DS in Nintendo’s history (1540.2 million). Nintendo is expected to sell another 750,000 Switch in the fiscal year (as of 1 April 2026), by which time its cumulative sales will be close to PlayStation 2 160 million, the best-selling host in the history of the game.

Switch, published in 2017, is the first of Nintendo’s hybrid hosts that had previously integrated their own independent home-based hosts with the R&D resources of the master. In particular, strong performance was recorded during the epidemic, with nearly 50 million outlets sold in two years. Their performance may be more prominent if they are not affected by supply shortages. To date, the total number of Switch platform games sold has reached 1.5 billion. In terms of the first game, the Switch platform’s highest sales include the sale of 70 million copies of the 8th luxurious edition of the Mario Racer, the Gathering of the Animal Forest Friends and the Nintendo Stars. In the last quarter, Nintendo indicated that the Dreamless Legend Z-A recorded 8.41 million sales on Switch, but Nintendo pointed out that this figure included Switch 2 digitized sales, as it was also downward compatible with Switch. Super Mario Galaxy 2 sold 2.42 million copies in October and Super Mario Galaxy also sold 2.28 million copies in October.
