Over half of the population of Viet Nam is a hand-player, a MMORPG and a 4X game master collection

Viet Nam ‘ s influence in the game industry is growing as downloads and player spending grow over the years. The country ‘ s mobile game market expenditure reached $825 million last year, an increase of 9 per cent over the previous year, and the growth drive is shifting from the application of internal purchase channels to more local payment options.

According to the Annual Review of Vietnamese Mobile Games 2025, published by Gamota, the type of game driven by progress (e.g. MMORPG and 4X games) dominates revenue collection, reflecting trends in other Asian markets, such as China and Korea. The report indicates that in terms of applied consumption, the Depth Progress system is preferred to the recreational experience. The sandbox game, while bringing in a large amount of downloads, is difficult to exchange for a fair share of the proceeds. However, sandbox games still have considerable potential for advertising. Players hope that consumption in the game will bring immediate returns, especially in the role-playing world. The competitive advantage of the immediate increase in combat power seems to be the main driving force behind the consumption of Vietnamese players. Viet Nam has about 54 million hand-walking players, of which about 10 per cent are paid users. Most players use Android equipment (57 per cent) and iOS accounts for 43 per cent. Three per cent of players in the country are classified as high-consumption users.

The population of Viet Nam is approximately 102 million, which means that more than half of the country plays games, making it one of the top seven markets for downloads of mobile games globally. Vietnamese players spend an average of 2.5 hours per day on a game platform, with high-activity players remaining for up to five years, with a longer retention period under appropriate conditions. These players play games almost every day. At the same time, even relatively leisurely players play two or three games a week, seeking spontaneous and casual entertainment.

Viet Nam’s hand-to-hand market is largely dominated by the Z and Alpha generations, who love comics like ” Dragonball ” , ” One Strike Superman ” , ” Giant Attack ” . In terms of mobile games, phantoms are currently the most popular subject, with 22 per cent of phantoms and 31 per cent of income in the top 50 games in the market. If the Eastern Fantasia is included, the share will increase to 43 per cent. In terms of individual hand-playing, few games compete with Garena Free Fire, Last War: Survival and Coin Master, plus Arena of Valor and Rise of Kingdoms, and these five games account for 36 per cent of all mobile games in Viet Nam.

Garena Free Fire and Arena of Valor are among the most downloaded games in Viet Nam. Other popular games include Roblox, Block Blast and Return to Childwood, with five games accounting for 33 per cent of all mobile downloads in Vietnam in 2025. Not only is Viet Nam a park for players, it is also attracting a growing number of game developers. Although most of the best-selling games come from abroad, the Vietnamese studio Corochti is at the top of the download list in Viet Nam with Return to Childwood.

Other local developers include iKame Gomes, OneSoft, Panthera and ABI Game Studio, of which ABI Game Studio has had more than 2 billion cumulative downloads. The global game giant Bei has also operated in Viet Nam through its Haang studio since 2019. Another Vietnamese developer, Doors Studio, founded in 2024, has recently worked with SayGames (the world’s top super-recreational game distributor) and will be addressing BagMaster Isekai, a medium-term global game. In addition, the social game developer Playard is experimenting with AI efficiency and expanding his team after obtaining a Replay Global investment.

Viet Nam ‘ s regulatory bodies require government permission to operate the game locally. Decree No. 147 provides for the authorities to work with platforms such as Google and Apple to remove unauthorized games. With stricter regulatory measures in place, Viet Nam’s monthly consumption fell to a four-year low in February, according to AppMagic estimates. The Vietnamese player expenditure at the App Store and Google Play app store dropped sharply from $30 million in December 2025 to $20.8 million in January and to a low of $19.2 million in February. In March, however, it recovered to $22.4 million. At the same time, recent regulations have increased the importance of cooperation between international studios and local partners, which may be of great benefit to Vietnamese developers. In addition, the Gamota report indicates that players are reducing their applied expenditures to alternative consumption methods and that these data are not included in the statistics of App Store and Google Play.
